Check-in on the Base #22: Western Seer Records
record label, big flat folk fest, and headed to the farm for a bit
Howdy Readers,
I made it down to the ranch for seeding. It’ll be a couplefew weeks still but airhoses need to be changed and anhydrous, hauled. I have a handful of family farm restoration projects I’m going to take on through this spring and summer. Really driven by honouring Dad these days. When he and mom moved to Kennedy from Arcola in the mid-eighties, they built a structure acting as a cold shed, hayloft and barn - it had two big stalls, a couple of calving pens, and a tack room. I think dad would be pumped about it being a studio and gym.
Was up at little jack’s farm a couple weeks ago. We spent the day with the film camera, roamed around the country-side, picked a guitar and recorded a bit. Great day of making art.
As you can make out in the photo, the Western Seer Tee. That shirt has legit become my favourite - love the design work of Connie Collingsworth (La Honda Records), Nick Bailey and Stephanie Kuse. Three distinct eyes. Couldn’t be happier about all things branding. On the business side of all that - how about that Lachlan Neville?
He played in Watson, SK last week at the Watson District Heritage Museum and Maury Wrubleski delivered the heat in their show review,
“The Rocanville-based singer songwriter put on a jaw-dropping performance…Looking for all the world like a young Gordon Lightfoot, Neville took the stage and immediately took command of the audience with his unassuming manner and his bright and witty observations of the songs, the reactions and the writing process. He shared an almost encyclopedic knowledge of American folk and country song writers, at times paying homage with incredible covers.”
He’s bustin his ass, piss and vinegar style. Plus it’s awesome being around a Gen Z’er. Us being a Millennial and a Gen X’er. We’re quite the crew.
See us all this year at Big Flat Folk Fest in Eastend, SK alongside basically a list of folks that have slept on our couch. Not all of’em. This is really gonna be a time. Come.
Again, a mighty thanks to all those who have upgraded their subscriptions. It makes all the difference in what we are attempting to achieve over on our end. Please consider doing so if you have the resources.
Much love, y’all. Chat soon.
