Check-in on the Base #15: The Nashville Vortex
My time in Nashville, an intimate discussion with Shauna Powers and the upcoming performance at Darke Hall
Howdy Readers,
I say it in the “Check-in…” but it’s worth repeating, holy shit am I ever happy to be home. 6 weeks away deep in the vortex of Nashville is a psychological experiment. We are still headed back the beginning of March but as far as time spent on the ground goes, it’s kinda like my relationship with the Rocky Mountains, an allurement upon entering and anticipation to exit. That said, it was a resounding success. Predominantly through a clarity of heart - and you tell me, if anything else matters more than that. Nothing.
The campaign leading into the vinyl release of the new record, “What’s Left of the Right” has found an incredible momentum. I’ve locked down more publicity and opportunity than any publicist I’ve worked with to date. Straight up. Thank you to all of you that have upgraded your subscriptions to this channel. The new entry for the Where Have All My Horses Gone? series dropped today and is accessible to everybody - the next one will include the new album cut for those that upgraded. I have a music video for another track almost finished. And I’m about to agree to the terms and services to TikTok. Yeah, you read that right.
Here is the interview with CBC’s Shauna Powers that aired on Saskatchewan Weekend this past Sunday. She reached out after reading some Substack entries on Dad’s passing and we felt my experience in navigating grief could help others in their losses. It was a tough interview and I guess that’s the point. I’m doing ok. There is a lot of God given beauty in loss. It’s a fucked up angle to the experience and again, the whole point. Shauna carries and empathy that I haven’t come across in her industry. Thank you, Shauna, my family sure holds a lot of love for you.

Folks, Darke Hall tickets are moving quick. Snagging yourself some in advance keeps morale high for everybody involved. You can do so HERE or walk on down to their box office on College Ave in Regina. Lachlan Neville is opening up the evening, Belle Plaine is after him and then I’m coming up to give y’all a taste of the new album. This has been our first show in Regina in years and it might be another few years until the next. Hope you can make it out.
Ok - get the new album free of charge by upgrading your subscription. I’m planning on mailing out the first chunk of orders by the weekend. Expect to hear some new tracks in the coming days.
God bless,
BB
