Thank you for all the generosity, folks. This Substack is going to be a lot of different things but an outlet to share some stories will always be the top of my priorities. But as I've mentioned on the socials or in the comments...we all have shit to figure out, it's never ending, transformation and reflection is life. This 'blog' is a chance for me to do that.
Enjoying the story my friend. Just spent a week at Kenosee at the end of July, love that place! As I myself have a defibrillator I find that quite interesting about your uncle's surgery.
It's easily the most recognized name in the area. If someone asks where I'm from and I say Kennedy, I follow it up with by Kenosee Lake. Lots of amazing memories.
Yeah, the timing of it all was remarkable. All surgeries of the sort had to be sent on to Calgary. He was the first in Saskatchewan in 2004.
Similar memories of Kenosee/Carlyle, UoS, & my favourite Uncle but a couple of decades earlier! Your story brought back a flood of emotions; great and not so good.

Beautifully written as always Blake.
Well thanks Leeroy. Likewise with yours.
How can you experience the forest if you always play the fairway.
Thank you for your powerful storytelling Blake. It really touched me.
Thank you Shauna. You've influenced me to be more vulnerable and open in my writing. How only you could.
So well said; prose from the heart that paints the joys, trials & tribulations of youth. I enjoy the memories and images your words rekindle.
Stories are everything. Happy y'all can enjoy me working my shit out :)
