Mentorship is SO important in one's growth as a human bean. Funny thing though, it can't be taken, it has to be received. Glad you had Uncle John in your life and came to a point where you were ready to receive. Cheers!

‘Retired teacher’ grabbed me. Newly retired, kinda ambling right now, no direction known. Your piece inspired me. To do what remains a mystery but you got me thinking… Appreciate you, keep em coming.

Whenever I see your latest Uncle John installment pop into my Inbox, I pause what I'm doing and sit down to read or listen. With this latest installment it was both! Thanks for the beautiful shout out. Your Uncle John, as you know, was a beloved high school teacher for me, but you've brought him alive in brand new ways with these stories. Thank you for that. Thanks also for your intimate reflections on your own path of healing. It's inspirational, as are you.

Thanks, that was awesome. I actually have one of your Uncle John's paintings. It's the one of the little stone church, I call it. Actually, St. Paul's,Anglican, in between Kennedy and Langbank. I am so pumped to have such a treasure!! This was my church upbringing, Mom and Dad, and many more relatives in the graveyard. I love the painting so much and even have a son that wants it next!

Mr. Macfarlane was my home room teacher at Sheldon back in the 80s. I still remember being slightly disappointed, on the first day of grade 9, that I got him and not one of the younger "cooler" teachers. But I came to realize he was as cool as they came. His Frankie Fencepost story-reading classes are some of my favourite high school memories. He was always smiling and would always said hello in the hall, calling each and every student by name.

Later in life, when he had taken up painting and I worked for the Art Gallery of Regina, he would always pop in and say hello. He was truly a gentleman and a class act. ❤️ Thank you for sharing your memories. I will be sharing this far and wide.
