Check-in on the Base #28: Western Seer Songwriters Round

Regina Folkfest, A Belle Plaine Weekend, and The Western Seer Songwriters Round

Howdy Readers,

A little bit of a longer “Check-in” this week. There’s been a lot going on in our lives both personally and professionally so I attempted to cover what’s pertinent. A lot of times riffing on the mic both sparks ideas for Substack entries as well as leaves me remiss of what wasn’t covered in the stream of consciousness.

It is my intent to dedicate a much deserved and more focused entry in regard to, and in my best attempt to remain celebratory, I said a few words on Melanie’s grandmother, Laila Johnson who we lost a few weeks ago. A week shy of 95, I don’t know if I’ve even processed it as the loss is being experienced on an emotional spectrum. I have lots to say and here and now just isn’t the place. God bless Grandma Laila.

Honestly crew - as far as today’s description goes - I’m going to let the audio portion do the talking. Lots was covered, the end of the Regina Folk Festival, the outcome of our Saskatchewan Music Awards nomination (I appreciate all that put their support in our direction, thank you) and upcoming shows - some Belle Plaine stuff this weekend, and the whole Western Seer crew heading back to Alberta for a couple songwriter rounds. All information is listed below.

Again, lots covered in our audio portion…keep yer heads up for a new entry to hit your inboxes before the weekend.

Grateful to y’all. We’ve got our noses to the grindstone over here -

Much love,

BB

An Ideal Day / Write Like Your Life Depends On It

The irony is my Dad’s philosophy often contradicted his actions. Had he been more devout to the conservative mindset of individualism, I wouldn't have developed my determination without his continued support — striving for achievements that might return a fraction of his generosity.

Considering what I said about pride, I struggle to find another word for the connection Dad and I shared. So, I’ll say it: he was proudest of me when I was at my boldest.
